Evolution of ERP Software for Small and Medium Business

Evolution of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for small and medium business made its way way back in 1980 and evolved in business practice and flow of information.

ERP software's was backbone for top 500 companies to run their business operations and was powered by SAP, Oracle and other software giants.

However the term ERP for SMB has evolved last 40 yrs for business operating in this sector and the below image represents the evolution path.

1980 - Character based ERP were introduced which had capabilities to record transactions with low processing power computers and was written with programming languages such as FORTRAN, COBOL and others

1990 - Client Server technology, with rapid growth of computers across organization Novel Network gained momentum allowing computers to networked easily and that led to growth of ERP across network, software's were written in Foxpro, Visual Basic, Java and other technologies which has user interface designs.

2000 - Remote Connectivity, with internet flowing across the network, Cisco contributed to routers and switches that allowed people to connect across the world and gain access to your ERP systems via remote connectivity such as Citrix and still use Client/Server technology or few web based systems.

The client/server had rich interfaces for users to use and mine data however the web based had browser restrictions due to components used and were limited to information that could be displayed to end-users and this space was evolving faster for vendors to keep up.

2010 - Four decades later the evolution of Internet technologies and programming languages has finally reached the Cloud where business can operate efficiently and have entire infrastructure taken care on the cloud.

Cloud ERP software's are written in powerful web based languages which can be categorized into "Open Source" or "Proprietary" mainly Microsoft .Net Technology and Java.

Cloud ERP makes it easier to access from anywhere, on any devices local or remote without hassle and it's bound to grow in near future.

Acumatica Snapshots - Uploading and restoring large files

In Acumatica ERP, you can create company snapshots containing your company’s full or partial data. Snapshots that can be saved locally in the same database, or at a specified location. You can import and restore snapshot to another company, in this case test company, it's pretty handy tool very useful during implementations, customization and support/troubleshooting while you work with data. You will occasionally run into few technical issues with snapshots, the newer version now needs you to keep all users logged out and in maintenance mode to take snapshot, link to blog article here. Today we are going to discuss how to export and import snapshots which are larger in file size of above 1GB, this is not a limitation from Acumatica and more to do with constraint and default value set in IIS (Internet Information Server). IIS by default allows uploading of a file size of 1GB and it limits the upload process and it can be tweaked to upload upto 4 GB file size and that's

Acumatica User Defined Fields/Values - UDF using attributes in 2018 R2

In 2018 R2 version Acumatica introduced new feature called "User Defined fields" in short UDF's. These fields allow users to configure existing document screens to capture custom data per document basis. New features like this really helps partner/customer to configure business workflow process, this capability built on a framework can now enhance existing documents like Sales order, purchase order or other document to collect custom data at transaction level using attributes. For more information on which documents/screens you can collect UDF's refer to Acumatica help  In this example I have created few custom data that we would like to accept in our Print industry, this works pretty well with our Acumatica plugin PrintShop for Screen printing and embroidery companies, as business do accept different type of data and allows us to do minimal customizations. If your accepting custom data related to art work, then you can create those attributes ahead of
